Some years ago (back in 2021, to be exact), Square Enix fans were excited to hear the announcement of Dragon Quest XII, the next installment in the long-running Dragon Quest series. However, fans have been disappointed as news about the game has been lacking over the years. Recently, Yuji Horii announced on his radio show KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku that Square Enix is still working on developing the game. He went on to apologize about any confusion about Dragon Quest XII being canceled.
The reason why the game seemed to vanish is because the lead series producer, Yu Miyake, had stepped down due to the passing of Dragon Quest’s character designer, Akira Toriyama, in 2024. If all goes well, we should probably see the game launch on Nintendo Switch 2, which will be releasing later this year. Don’t lose hope Dragon Quest fans!
