Over the last few years, there have been a number of homages to the 8-Bit era. The majority of these titles specifically reference home consoles like the NES, but Nicalis’ upcoming Switch title Save Me Mr. Tako is a throwback to Nintendo’s other 8-bit platform, the Game Boy. Announced last year, the title looks just like a long forgotten Game Boy game, and fans shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to check it out!
According to Nicalis, Save Me Mr. Tako has been submitted to Nintendo, and a release date should be announced soon. Developer Christophe Galati shared a trio of in-game borders, which are a direct homage to the Super Game Boy peripheral. The game will apparently feature 10 borders when it launches. It will also have multiple display options, including 4:3 and 16:9.

It’s quite impressive how much detail Galati has shown so far in his attempts to homage the original Game Boy. While the system’s olive green color was a bit ugly back in the day, as someone that grew up with the original Game Boy, there really is something charming about seeing a game in that particular hue once again. Hopefully, Save Me Mr. Tako will live up to some of the old handheld’s best.
