Indie developers love looking back to the glory days of the NES and SNES for inspiration, both in terms and graphics and gameplay. However, one classic system hasn’t received quite the same amount of love: the original monochromatic Game Boy. Fans of that handheld’s simplified style will undoubtedly be excited to see that Nicalis will soon be publishing a title right up their alley for Nintendo Switch.
Save Me Mr Tako: Tasukete Tako-San from French developer Christophe Galati is a 2D action/platformer about a heroic octopus trying to bring peace to a world in which humans and octopi are at war with one another. The game features both side-scrolling and overhead perspectives across its six worlds and 16 dungeons. Mr. Tako will be able to turn enemies into usable platforms by blasting them with ink and will be able to unlock many other extra powers by collecting 50 hats throughout the game. Visually, the game was specifically designed around the limitations of the Game Boy.
While Save Me Mr. Tako doesn’t have a solid release date yet, Nicalis has confirmed it will publish the title in the fourth quarter of this year, so hopefully it will be ready sometime around the holidays.
