While we’ve been aware of the impending launch of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Florida, there have been rumors swirling as to other Nintendo properties also being part of the deal. Pokémon has previously been named as an alleged aspect of the expansion, and now an even more enticing addition has entered the speculation mill: The Legend of Zelda.
Website Theme Park University is claiming that via “several credible sources” they’ve learned that The Legend of Zelda will be replacing the entirety of The Lost Continent area of Universal’s Islands of Adventure park. This is a substantial chunk of land, spreading from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter all the way to Seuss Landing. Assuming the rumor is true, these alterations wouldn’t be complete until after 2020.
Why all this (to quote Heath Ledger’s Joker) “aggressive expansion?” Thank Disney. Universal’s parent company is Comcast, which just recently lost its bid against the House of Mouse to buyout Fox’s various assets, including Marvel properties the Fantastic Four and X-Men. Clearly, Comcast is feeling the heat from Disney, so it’s suddenly seeing its exclusive rights to produce Nintendo-based theme park content as an exceptionally strong (and potentially lucrative) advantage to lean on.
Again, these are rumors, folks, but if they’re ever officially announced, you’ll hear it from Nintendojo first! In the meantime, tell us your Nintendo theme park fantasies in the comments and on social media!
