Prior to Switch’s official reveal, the internet was abuzz with rumors surrounding the system and its upcoming library of games. One of the more interesting rumors to emerge was a crossover title featuring Ubisoft’s quirky yet lovable Rabbids and Mario. While nothing official has been revealed at this time, Kotaku is now citing a new anonymous source with previously unheard details about the project.
According to this source, the game is titled Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and, like previously rumored, will be a turn-based RPG. The game will apparently feature at least eight playable characters: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and four Rabbids dressed like their respective Nintendo costars. Interestingly enough, the source suggests the characters will be equipped with laser guns, so Mario and company apparently won’t just be jumping on baddies or throwing fire balls. Despite this more potent weaponry, the game should still maintain Mario’s lighthearted nature and the Rabbids’ trademark zaniness. What’s great, should this all prove to be true, is that the game will feature two player co-op.
In addition to these details, Kotaku also claims to have received art assets from their source, but the mystery person has requested they not publish them at this time. However, their information does seem to confirm the game is being developed in Snowdrop, a game engine developed by Ubisoft and previously used by them in several current and upcoming titles. Finally, the source suggests that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will release later this year, most likely in August or September, so there is a good likelihood it won’t be too much longer before we start getting official details.
