Nintendo Switch has been a massive success for Nintendo, pushing nearly 140 million units of the console since its launch in March of 2017. Still, with seven years under its belt, Switch is arguably becoming a bit long in the tooth, prompting many to speculate (in some cases for years now) that a successor is on the way. What form that successor will take seems to have been solidifying in more recent times, with the latest rumors suggesting that the console will have a custom NVIDIA chip and be backwards compatible, at the very least.
Now, word is leaking throughout the industry that while some had felt 2024 would be the year when the next Nintendo console comes to market, it turns out this will not be the case. As reported by Japanese outlet Nikkei, Nintendo has opted to push back its Switch successor to March of 2025 in order to ensure that there will be enough stock of the system on hand at retail. The delay also seems to be in the hopes of making sure enough software is available to coincide with the launch.
That means, if the rumor is true, that fans will have to wait a while longer for the next Nintendo system. Still, with plenty of games on the way in 2024, and even a Pokémon Presents broadcast inbound for tomorrow morning, there should be enough happening on Switch to keep everyone happy in the interim.
