Bandai Namco and Double Fine Productions announced in today’s Nindies Showcase that they are developing a new 3D action rogue-like coming to Switch called Rad.
Randy Le, Brand Manager for Bandai Namco Entertainment America, said “We’re thrilled to finally reveal the game and can’t wait for the community to jump into this colorful RAD world… Double Fine is bringing its trademark charm to the game with a unique story, interesting characters, and an unforgettable experience.”
In RAD, players take on the role of a teenage protagonist who must venture into the Fallow — an ever-changing, radioactive wasteland filled with unknown and unspeakable creatures. It’s here that they’ll find the solution to heal the world, and transform the cracked, barren landscape into a lush source of new life. But humanity’s future comes at great personal cost, as the deeper they journey into unknown lands, the more they will expose themselves to gnarly toxins which will wreak havoc on their fragile human form.
There were plenty of rad jokes in the unveiling, and the game certainly looks interesting. As seen in the announcement trailer below, players will gain new abilities as the radiation affects their character, mutating them into something “far more powerful”.
Fans who are curious to see how the game plays ahead of its release can sign up to the closed beta on Steam here (the beta is not available on Switch sadly).
Rad is coming to Switch, Steam, Playstation 4 and Xbox One later this summer.
