POLYMEGA has been a tantalizing prospect for retro gamers for many years now. Billed as a modular console, POLYMEGA is meant to be a catch-all of sorts for virtually every old school game platform under the sun. The device is meant to run SNES, Genesis, and countless other games, with add-ons and peripherals that will expand functionality even further. Everything seems primed for POLYMEGA to make a huge splash when it launches—but fans have been waiting quite a while to learn when exactly that will be.

In December of 2019 we reported that POLYMEGA was pushed back to a 2020 launch, but 2020 has come and gone and the calendar is inching ever closer to 2022. So, when is POLYMEGA going to arrive? According to Playmaji, Inc., the company behind POLYMEGA, September 12 of this year:

Here’s an excerpt from the official press release:

Playmaji CEO Bryan Bernal said “Despite the challenging shipping environment presented by the COVID-19 pandemic starting last year, and other factors beyond our control at our Myanmar assembly facility in 2021, our team is excited to finally reach this critical release milestone, and further, we’re beyond grateful to our thousands of customers who stuck with us and believed in the vision of POLYMEGA® and what it could mean to the future of the video games industry.”

Playmaji states that orders will be fulfilled in the order that they were received, but that the company expects all orders to be shipped out by October. Located in Pasadena, California, Playmaji notes that consumers should expect to get their orders within one to three weeks of shipping. There are further logistical details stamped out in the release, which can be read in full here.

Whether or not there will be any further delays or hiccups is unknown, but it’s great to see POLYMEGA seemingly primed to finally start landing in the hands of customers. As far as preservation efforts go, it doesn’t (hypothetically) get much better than this. If Playmaji manages to pull off its ambitious vision, including the launch of a digital storefront by the holiday shopping season of this year, this could be a huge deal for retro gaming enthusiasts.
