A new game was announced during today’s Pokémon Presents broadcast: Pokémon Champions. This Nintendo Switch and mobile title is currently in development with no firm release window, but we did get a look at some gameplay. You can see it for yourself, below:
The trailer really tries to go for the member berries with all of the callbacks to the original Game Boy games, Nintendo 64, and so on, but then brings things up to today and shows people playing on a smartphone and Switch. Pokémon Champions is developed in conjunction with The Pokémon Works, that new subsidiary we reported on last March. Here’s a bit more about the game from the official press release:
Developed by The Pokémon Works in collaboration with GAME FREAK, the developer of the Pokémon video games, Pokémon Champions continues the tradition of Trainers pitting their skills against those of others from around the world, with the aim of allowing core game-style battles to be enjoyed by more players than ever before.
The game will also be compatible with Pokémon HOME, the cloud service that allows players to bring care for Pocket Monsters from across a variety of different games and platforms. No word on a Nintendo Switch 2 release, but the statement does say “Nintendo Switch family of systems,” so we’ll just have to wait and see where Pokémon Champions lands.
