Mobile gaming has been a cash cow for a while now, so it was perhaps only a matter of time before Nintendo and Game Freak decided they wanted a piece of the pie.

Given the everlasting popularity of the Pokemon franchise, it should perhaps come as no surprise that the mobile Pokémon titles have brought in a heck of a lot of money. To date, players have spent $2.5 billion across six Pokémon mobile games, according to Sensor Tower.

Pokémon GO is responsible for 98% of that number, bringing in an estimated $2.45 billion in earnings. The remaining $50 million is split across Pokémon Shuffle Mobile, which is estimated to have earned $25 million, and Pokémon Duel, Pokémon Quest, Pokémon: Magikarp Jump, and Pokémon TCG Online.

Collectively, the apps have been downloaded nearly 640 million times; 35% of the revenue has come from U.S. players ($875 million) while 29% has come from Japan ($725 million). Of course, this is particularly interesting in light of the fact that Nintendo has apparently encouraged its mobile partners to reduce the level of microtransactions in its games.

Have you made any in-app purchases for any of the Pokémon mobile titles? Which, if any, of them do you play the most?
