This morning’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase yielded quite a few interesting reveals, but arguably the most surprising was word that five classic Rareware games would be hitting Nintendo Switch Online—today! And what better way to reveal those five games than with a handy trailer, eh? Give it a peep:

The five games are as follows:

  • R.C. Pro-Am (NES)
  • Snake Rattle ‘n’ Roll (NES)
  • Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (SNES)
  • Killer Instinct (SNES)
  • Blast Corps (Nintendo 64)

Although Rare is now exclusive to Microsoft, that hasn’t stopped the company from working with Nintendo in recent years to bring various Xbox games and franchises to Switch, including classics like Banjo-Kazooie and Jet Force Gemini, both of which are currently available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. As ever, your subscription must be current in order to play. Will you be checking these games out? Tell us below!

All of these games are a joy in any context, though I have to admit I’d rather see a Switch release of Rare Replay. With the not-so-old 3DS and Wii U online services shutting down, it’s tough to get too excited about a paid subscription for emulated games with unknown-but-soon expiration dates.

Truly though, these are all examples of Rare in its prime. No wrong way to experience these gems.
