Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds was debuted at last year’s Game Awards ceremony, but not much was known about the title beyond a “coming soon” launch window and a snazzy cinematic trailer that didn’t do much to show off gameplay. The situation has changed just a wee bit with the recent release of a gameplay trailer that finally officially shows off what the game looks like in motion. Check it out:
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds brings back the three different terrains from the Sonic Racing Transformed games, which are land, sea, and air. Much like in Mario Kart 8, players can instantaneously shift between the trio of road types mid-race. However, in CrossWorlds, players will encounter something called Travel Rings that open up the racetracks to new, nominal CrossWorlds (think dimensions) right in the middle of a competition. It sounds like SEGA is taking a page from the Sonic movies with these interdimensional ring gates.
Besides all that, fans can look forward to an enormous roster of racers (the biggest yet for a Sonic Racing game) to choose from. What’s more, CrossWorlds will also provide an array of customizable vehicles to swap parts, abilities, and powers between. Alas, we still don’t know when CrossWorlds will hit stores, but SEGA does say that it’s coming “soon,” so we’ll keep you all posted.
