Kamiya has lots to say after fans combine to ensure the title will come to Nintendo Switch!
The other day we reported that there were rumors Platinum Games would be looking to crowdfund an initiative to bring its Wii U brawler The Wonderful 101 to Nintendo Switch. Well, it turns out those rumors were in fact a reality, and following a ridiculously successful Kickstarter campaign, The Wonderful 101: Remastered is now confirmed as coming to the system. You can check out the campaign at the link below (which has garnered over $1.3 million as of this writing, putting it well about the initial $50,000 being asked for!). There are still a variety of stretch goals on the table for those who interested in helping make them into a reality:
Hideki Kamiya, director of the original
The Wonderful 101, was quite pleased with the progress that has been made in breathing new life into the game. So much so that he’s taken to the project’s Kickstarter page to update it with some never-before-seen concept art from back during the title’s development. Kamiya launches into quite a lot of detail regarding the early days of bringing
The Wonderful 101 to life. This includes word that Kamiya had originally “fixated on the number 100” from the outset, but a request to “add one more number” to the title led to the 101 moniker, which “[signifies] the player themselves joining the roster, while also adding some extra flair to the script.”
Other details include Kamiya’s choice to switch the art style to be reminiscent of American comic books, as well as what vantage point he wanted the game to take place from. Kamiya himself did all of the design work for this initial proposal; anyone interested in game design should give this post a look, it’s a fabulous read. Follow the link below for the full writeup! The Wonderful 101: Remastered heading to Switch in April of 2020.
