It’s been rough of late for TT Games and Warner Bros. Games, with both companies struggling in different ways. From reports of friction in the workplace to canceled projects to monumental failures like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, both TT and WB are looking for a win. Thus it might not be all too surprising to hear that the duo have turned to a bankable commodity in the form of the Dark Knight himself. Everyone loves a good Batman game, and with the announcement of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, one assumes the hope is a return to the sort of fun that TT, in particular, is known for with this brand. Take a look:

Legacy of the Dark Knight is looking to expand upon previous LEGO Batman efforts. Let’s take a look at what the story has in store, first:

The adventure begins with the origins of Batman as a young Bruce Wayne trains with The League of Shadows, and throughout the story-led campaign, players will build a family of allies with well-known characters including Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul to help confront an ever-growing threat from a Rogues Gallery of DC Super-Villains, facing the likes of The Joker, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, Bane, and more.

The game is said to offer a more robust combat system replete “with  fluid attack chains, counters, and over-the-top takedowns,” as well as a variety of different types of attacks besides the usual Bat-gadgets, including “Jim Gordon’s foam sprayer, Robin’s line launcher, and Catwoman’s whip.” Remember Gordon’s foam sprayer in The Killing Joke, everyone? No? Moving on…

Players will be able to roam an open-world Gotham City stuffed with crimes and mysteries, rewards and surprises, and much more. There’s solo play as well as two-player local co-op, for those who are interested. What’s more, players wanting a stiffer challenge will have two additional difficulty levels to choose from: Caped Crusader and Dark Knight difficulty levels. If that’s not enough, TT is promising Batmobiles and Batcycles, a customizable Batcave, a bunch of legacy Batman costumes—who knows, this might be exactly what the doctor ordered for TT and WB’s woes. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight comes to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
