Europe Getting a Pair of Special Editions for Fatal Frame and Xenoblade Chronicles X

Xenoblade also receiving a US special edition, though Nintendo has yet to announce details.

Nintendo has announced a number of special editions to complement the European release of both Xenoblade Chronicles X and Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water (or Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water as it is known in Europe).

Beginning with Xenoblade Chronicles X, upon its December release this year consumers will be able to purchase either the Wii U Premium Pack or the stand alone Limited Edition Pack. Details of each pack are below:

If this wasn’t enough, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, another huge Wii U release scheduled to drop in Europe on October 30, will also have a limited edition pack. This will feature a copy of the game, a double sided poster, an art book, four spirit photographs, and a steelbook cover. You can check out the slightly creepy trailer for the limited edition pack below:

As you may have guessed, it’s yet to be confirmed as to whether any of these limited editions will make it across the pond for release in the US, although Nintendo of America has confirmed via Twitter that at least Xenoblade will receive its own region-specific special edition. Given the worldwide popularity of these two huge gaming franchises, I’m certain it’s more a question of “when” rather than “if” when it comes to their US release.

As usual, we here in the US are the afterthought. Kind of like Mario Kart 8, some territories got the blue shell, and what do we get? A poster. Big deal. What’s with Nintendo in this country? Can’t get Amiibo, but other areas they just walk in and buy the ones they want. It’s like America is being hosed.

It’s all because of the crash of `82. But that was over 30 years ago. You’d think Japanese gaming companies, especially the one that resurrected gaming in NA would have a little more faith in us by now.

Yeah, no kidding. The Wii U is doing poorly, but still that somehow equates to “lets give everyone else the cool stuff, and skip America because they aren’t buying our system.” How about we get the stuff everyone else gets, so people WILL buy our system? (Like finding the Amiibo you want in this country, but I digress) I remember when the name was revealed, I thought “it’s not going to do that well.” People disagree, but the Wii was NOT a great Nintendo system, it was a fad because of the gimmicks. I never liked and still really don’t like motion controls. I’d rather sit in my chair and use a standard controller. But the name alone kind of doomed the Wii U, even though it is light years better than the original Wii. Nintendo did save the industry after it crashed in 1983, and I hope they somehow do it again, before people catch on to the “day one DLC” scam and revolt against getting screwed. Nintendo gets points for doing dlc right, AND giving away free dlc like I heard they do with Splatoon. If they only decide to get serious again, and stop deliberately being a generation behind, they could lead again. What worries me the most is the smartphone garbage, that smells like desperation; but maybe that IS them catching up to the times after all.

The good news is: Nintendo of America stated via twitter (at Noon on Wednesday) that we ill be getting a “unique special edition”. Let’s hope for something cool.

Also, I’m sure we may occasionally get products (or special editions) that make other territories jealous, but it does seem like Europe Nintendo fans get some fantastic items, Mario Kart 8 like you mentioned, but also that spiffy “Link Between Worlds” special edition that included a treasure chest game holder (complete with Zelda chime!) While our Club Nintendo shut down, theirs is still going (although it will close soon) and they’re offering Toad Lamps and Mario Kart 8 sound tracks. I know there are a load of examples both ways…. Really hoping for a cool Xenoblade Chronicles X Special Edition.

I hope it is something good too. In any case, I just want to play the game really, it looks good. Man, I didn’t know about that Zelda stuff! At least we got a special 3DS I suppose, I was happy to get that and lucked out on the Majora’s Mask new 3DS. Can’t complain too much.
