During The Game Awards last week, it was revealed that Capcom is bringing new Onimusha and Ōkami games to fans. These series have both not seen fresh installments for 18 and 13 years, respectively, which is quite a long time. While it’s ambitious of Capcom to resuscitate both brands after so long in hibernation, it seems that the company isn’t content to stop with these two games.
In its quarterly business report, Capcom said that it plans to “reactivate dormant IPs.” Here’s a bit more from their statement:
In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently.
The company is working to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content, which includes reviving past IPs like the two titles announced above, in order to continuously produce highly efficient, high-quality titles.
Capcom hasn’t said which dorman IPs are on the company’s radar, but there are a number of popular franchises that spring to mind, including Mega Man, Dino Crisis, Devil May Cry, and others. Fans will just have to wait and see what the future has in store, but in the meanwhile, tell us which games you’d like to see make a comeback down in the comments.
