Well, that was sudden. After years of delays (the original release window was slated for 2017!), Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has finally gotten an official release date. Watch the trailer, below:
What’s especially interesting about this trailer is that it so directly responds to the waves of criticism that have plagued the title for so long. The trailer begins with much of this commentary actually appearing on-screen in text boxes, which continue to amass and eventually block out main protagonist Miriam as she fights enemies. The picture eventually gives way to series mastermind (and former Castlevania stalwart) Koji Igarashi declaring that he will “prove them wrong!” as he hurls a wineglass to the ground.
The footage then transitions into a series of “old” and “new” shots of the game, with the latter presumably representing assets pulled from the final build of Bloodstained (or possibly a build very close to the final one). It’s daring, certainly, especially if the final product still proves to be as underwhelming as so many people believed the previous iterations to be. This new look at Bloodstained arguably does appear to be better and, given the pedigree of work that Igarashi has created, there’s plenty of reason to still be optimistic for this one.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night launches June 25.
