It took a while (the game was supposed to launch this past fall), but EA and developer Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends has finally made its way to Nintendo Switch. The wizards at port specialists Panic Button have worked wonders in the past, but they might have outdone themselves by bringing Apex Legends to Nintendo’s hybrid console. Running at 720p docked and 576p in handheld mode, both with a fixed 30 FPS, Apex Legends is looking solid on Switch’s (relative to other platforms) diminutive processing power. You can get a look at the game in action in this launch trailer (it’s actually halfway funny):
Apex Legends launched in 2019 and is renowned for its engaging gunplay as well as fresh approach to the battle royale genre. For its launch, Respawn has decided to welcome Switch players with the following goodies and perks:
- Double XP for the first two weeks
- 30 free Season 8 Battle Pass levels
- Limited-time Legendary Pathfinder skin – P.A.T.H. –
Since it’s free-to-play, there’s really no risk to give Apex Legends a shot. There are microtransactions available, but they’re optional. At 25 gigs it’s a sizeable download, so keep that in mind when downloading the game to your Switch. Cross-play is also supported, so there should be plenty of competition to partake in.
