While Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t quite done with free content, details about the first paid DLC to come to the game has been revealed. Launching on November 5, Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise brings a plethora of additions to the game. The additions are so plentiful they practically amount to an all new game being added to New Horizons.
It’s a lot to get into, so let’s break it all down bit by bit. Happy Home Paradise sees the player whisked away to a series of different islands where they must customize them to suit that particular islander’s tastes. The concept is very similar to the 3DS game Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, but is now bolted onto the New Horizons experience.
In charge of tasking you with your new duties is the returning villager Lottie. As you complete tasks you’re paid in a form of currency called Poki that is exclusive to the Happy Home Paradise section of the game. The level of customization in this mode is through the roof (which is also the case for the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update), affording players more control over how they arrange a space than ever before.
Not only will you be able to buy exclusive items using Poki, but you’ll then be able to take those items back to your New Horizons island. What’s more, you’ll eventually unlock the ability to redesign your neighbors’ homes, too. The DLC can be purchases for $24.99 as a standalone purchase, but if you opt into the new Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack service, Happy Home Paradise is included free of charge (well, to be clearer it’s just part of the annual fee, but I digress).
Will this new expansion be tempting you into a purchase or a new NSO subscription? Tell us in the comments!

Between this and the v2.0 update, it’s as though they read my wife’s mind (and mine, hooray Kapp’n!) and created our idealized version of Animal Crossing.
NSO has almost no appeal for me; continuous payments for temporary access is a very hard sell. But $25 for what feels like a whole new AC game, that’s a complete no-brainer!
