Hey guys. Really good to see you having special guests.
On CES and 3DS I have a few theories. One, Nintendo is lying and is being like “no we totally aren’t going to say anything at CES.” Or Sony will show PSP2 at CES to try and chill some of the 3DS excitement and Nintendo will feel compelled to finalize of American details in retaliation. In regards to 3DS doing well. You mentioned the smart phone phenomena, which all ready hit Japan and was a factor in killing console sales not handhelds there in the last decade. I think America will be the reverse. Smart phones will decrease the presence of handhelds but not consoles. In terms of sales very few systems sell more than their prior gen system especially if they were the top dog. I could see 3DS doing well but doubt it will reach the level DS did. Plus 3D has NEVER succeed before will it this time? Everyone seems to think its gonna be huge but I’m still very skeptical.
In regards to multiplayer. Last minute multiplayer and co-op just feels unnecessarily tacked on. They also just copy whats big’s multiplayer which makes that style of multiplayer feel played out. Seriously at this point I never wanna play co-op or hear the word “zombie” again. I dunno there is something just sterile about online multiplayer. Don’t get me wrong I love a lot of stuff I’ve played. But there is something about playing with other people in a room or getting a game with great story and playing alone (like old FFs) or being watched by a friend as you play a single player epic that just feels more connected than playing some of my favorite games like halo reach online. Maybe that’s why I’ve been so into retro gaming lately? Maybe we are just cantankerous old men who want games to remind us of when we were kids?
Great topics you got me all riled up.
(Haha at your reaction to my last comment. Probably should have worded it better. Noah I did mean a specific person watching me who had been the whole time. Like your experience. Not any person. Think of us being watched while playing games as being like at an arcade?)
