Welcome, new associates! You’ve been recruited into the unique and fantastic world of retail sales! Welcome to Nookingtons and the Nookway team!
Over the next four hours, we’ll be looking at just what makes Nook Enterprises the successful retail juggernaut it is today. Plus, you’ll learn everything you can about founder Tom Nook, and how he turned a successful country store into a globe-spanning network of mega-stores that dominated all competition. Then, you’ll find out the secrets to the Nookway method of customer service that keep our patrons coming back again and again. Finally, we’ll touch on the Nookway mission — “Find Everyone The Perfect Sale!”
When he opened the first Nook’s Cranny in a small oceanside town, Tom Nook had no idea how far his aspirations would take him. Buoying his general store with auto and home loans, upon which he made a fairly large share of interest, Nook was able to finance several other stores throughout northern California, until he made Nookway the largest retail chain in the United States. Expanding globally by acquiring already-existing retail chains, Nook Enterprises now sports a global empire of stores and financial institutions that dwarfs any competition, from the high-end Nookington’s franchise, to the original Nook’s Cranny, still in its redwood-tree location, to the large chain of Nook ‘N Go convenience stores around the planet, which resulted from Nook’s oil concerns.
After just fifty-seven short months of shadowing a senior employee, you (yes you!) could run a humble branch of Nookway such as this.
Now that you know a little bit about how Nookway was founded, it’s time to discover the secrets to the greatest customer service on the planet. Remember that when a customer enters your store, it’s important to pay attention to his or her needs. Don’t merely wait for the customer to ask you a question. Remember to follow the customer around, so that you will be instantly available. Also, any time a customer even glances at an item for sale, give them all possible information about said item immediately, if not sooner, along with the price. You should have more than enough cash and change in your pockets to conduct a sale right on the spot.
Which leads us to the Nookway mission statement: “Find Everyone the Perfect Sale!” Just because someone may not be interested in the items we currently have for sale, doesn’t mean that the customer shouldn’t buy them. Quite the opposite. Remember that buying things is the highest form of art, and that it’s your responsibility to make sure that each and every customer engages in his or her aesthetic duty. One customer, one sale. No matter what.
Now that you’ve learned the ropes of your job, it’s time to don your apron, get out there, and do your Nookly duty. Make our CEO proud!
