Pixels by Patrick Jean

And while we’re on the subject of old but awesome video game films, check out this one about the pixel-pocalypse by Patrick Jean.
One thing you may not know, however, is that Adam Sandler’s production company picked this up back in 2010 and are supposedly making a full-length feature film out of it (errr…yay?). Long-time Sandler collaborator Tim Herlihy was set to pen the adaptation, but was recently reported to have been replaced by Tim Dowling when the studio wanted to give it a more 21st century Ghostbusters kind of vibe. Seth “King of Kong” Gordon is also set to be an executive producer, and it’s rumoured that the story will revolve around video game experts being recruited by the government to help deal with the pixel invasion.
Of course, the name Adam Sandler may send chills down your spine (especially when you’ve been forced to sit through the atrocity that is Bedtime Stories), but I think it will be interesting to see how this pans out– will it finally be a video game movie we can be proud of, or will it hit the bottom of the movie bargain bin alongside the awful, awful Super Mario Bros.? Probably the latter if Sandler’s latest efforts are anything to by, but whatever happens, at least we’ll soon have Disney’s Wreck-It-Ralph to wash away the bad taste!
