Activision stopped publishing Call of Duty on Nintendo hardware back in 2013 following the release of Ghosts on Wii U. Ever since then, the series has been MIA for Nintendo fans. It wasn’t until 2022 that there started to be rumblings about the series making a return on Switch, which made sense given Microsoft had pledged it would bring the series to a Nintendo console once more following its acquisition of Activision. Recently, a datamine had suggested that Call of Duty might finally be making its comeback on a Nintendo system, and now, that has been confirmed as true as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was announced for Switch 2. Take a look:
The footage is, of course, not from the Switch 2 build, but we do know that the game will be arriving on the same date as all other versions October 23, 2026. Modern Warfare 4 is shaking things up with an all-new locale combined with returning characters. Here’s the rundown from Activision:
Fight as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier facing live combat for the first time alongside his squad. What begins as a routine patrol descends into chaos when North Korea launches a full-scale invasion, forcing Park and his unit into a desperate fight through collapsing cities and counteroffensives. The Campaign drops players into the chaos, pressure, and split-second intensity of ground-level combat.
Infinity Ward, in conjunction with Digital Legends, is handling development duties for the game. If it’s been a while since the last time you played a Call of Duty title, it’s worth noting that some fans have been less than thrilled with the zany crossover operators on offer, including characters like Beavis and Butthead, Shredder from TMNT, and more, among other concerns. Activision is promising “grounded, precise combat” for this installment, but no word on if fans will be getting a true back-to-basics Modern Warfare experience, or if the over-the-top antics will be returning. Regardless, it’s a welcome addition to the Switch 2 lineup… assuming Activision delivers a version of Modern Warfare 4 that runs smoothly, especially in the critical online multiplayer mode that fans love.
