Panic, the folks behind Playdate, a modern retro console that’s distinguishing feature is an analogue crank that can be used for unique in game mechanics, has released several updates on how everything is going in a business update. As of last month, February 2024, the company has moved 70,000 units of the console. Alongside the console, the company maintains an in built storefront that goes by the name Catalog, which currently houses 181 games specially curated by Panic themselves.
According to the company, this storefront has contributed $544,290 in sales. They note that they have sold 150,000 games in total on the storefront.
Going forward, the company is focused on expanding the player base for their console. In an article from GamesIndustry.biz, Greg Maletic, their head of special projects, mentions how the company would like to expand to retail, but are unsure of moving the console at such a scale.
