At this weekend’s EGX 2016 convention, attendees got a chance to check out Yooka-Laylee, the indie spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie. On Sunday, Playtonic Games announced that the star of another indie title is set to appear in the game as well: Shovel Knight!
According to Playtonic, the team wanted a guest NPC that could appear on all platforms. The selection of Shovel Knight isn’t all that surprising. Shovel Knight creator Yacht Club Games has allowed the character to appear in other games in the past, including Runbow. The developer has also teased that the follow-up to Shovel Knight could be a throwback to the Nintendo 64 era. Perhaps the character’s appearance in Yooka-Laylee will set the stage for the next Shovel Knight game!
So far, impressions for Yooka-Laylee out of EGX 2016 seem quite strong. Hopefully the title will continue to impress as its first quarter 2017 release date approaches!
