Pokémon Day is fast approaching, and Pokémon fever is spreading to some pretty unlikely places– including two of Wii U’s biggest titles!

Last night, Nintendo announced via Twitter that it is releasing a new Pokémon-inspired Event Course in Super Mario Maker. The level is available to play now in Course World and features three diverging pathways, each of which bestows players with a Mystery Mushroom costume based on the original trio of starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. You’ll need to clear the course all three ways to unlock the complete set of costumes.

That’s not the only Wii U game getting in on the festivities, however; Nintendo also announced the theme for Splatoon’s next Splatfest last night, and it’s one that is sure to rekindle old rivalries: Pokémon Red vs. Pokémon Blue. The Splatfest kicks off next week on February 19 at 10 PM Pacific Time and will occur simultaneously across the globe (though you’ll still only be matched up with other players from your region).

Have you already unlocked the Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle costumes in Super Mario Maker? Which side will you be joining in the next Splatfest? Let us know in the comments!
