Pokémon turns 20 on February 27, and fans can expect a whole heck of a lot of ‘mon madness to ensue on what is being dubbed by Nintendo as Pokémon Day. Several retailers will be hosting special events on this makeshift holiday to commemorate the anniversary, including the following:
- Toys “R” Us: Special Pikachu and Magikarp foil cards from the new Pokémon TCG: Generations set, original 151 Pokémon poster while supplies last. Also, an exclusive TCG Generations-themed binder for sale.
- GameStop: Mythical Pokémon poster with the purchase of any Pokémon item or game, including an exclusive Mew plush.
- Nintendo NY: What was once known as Nintendo World in Manhattan is now open under the name Nintendo NY, and it’s there that fans can look forward to a bevy of special activities to engage in.
There are plans for even more festivities that have yet to be announced; you can keep it tuned to Nintendojo, where we’ll be updating you as news develops, but you can also head to Pokémon.com for more information.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Nintendo if there wasn’t something going on in Japan to fill Westerners with jealousy, and in this case it’s the arrival some incredible pixel Pokémon merchandise heading exclusively (for now) to that region!
Oy, now that’s some handsome merchandise! Whether or not Europeans and North Americans will ever be able to get their hands on any beyond going the import route is anyone’s guess, but it’s nice to dream and oogle, in the meantime.
