There comes a time when everything must come to an end. The final chapter arrives, and it’s so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu– and today, dear readers, marks the final instalment of Another Castle. It’s been a fun ride over the past ten months, but unfortunately it’s time to say goodbye. I really hoped you’ve enjoyed Another Castle and have found it interesting to read, but there’s going to be lots of exciting things happening to Nintendojo over the coming few weeks– things way more exciting than talking about game stories– so hopefully you won’t miss it too much.
Of course, knowing this would be the last time I’d be flying the Another Castle flag made for a tricky choice of subject. Were this an ordinary column, I’d be knee-deep in discussing what the Castlevania series owes to Bram Stoker’s Dracula by now given its nearly Halloween (which is not a lot, it turns out!), but I thought I’d do things a little differently. I know I’ve talked a lot about what makes stories tick over the past seventeen columns, but today I thought I’d tell you what my favourite stories were and why they’ve stuck with me over the years. Some choices will be obvious (especially if you’ve been keeping an eye on which games I like talking about!), others perhaps less so, but in the end these are the stories that keep me gaming.
Just be warned that there will be spoilers ahead, so enter at your own risk… Enjoy!
