Ever since Switch released, Nintendo has made headlines with many of its first party titles for how quickly they’ve sold. It seems like most games the company has put out for its newest console have been smash successes, but unfortunately that type of momentum can be hard to carry. While it’s far from a flop at this point, Yoshi’s Crafted World hasn’t had the same impact as entries from some of Nintendo’s bigger franchises.
Shortly after launching on March 29, the colorful platformer has sold 53,327 physical units. While not a minuscule number, it only represents 35.96 percent of its initial shipment and the Switch itself actually saw about a 10 percent drop in sales from the week prior, suggesting the game wasn’t exactly moving systems. The fact that these numbers ultimately suggest a total global shipment of about 150,000 units, it seems to suggest that Nintendo wasn’t expecting the game to set the charts on fire, but it undoubtedly would have hoped for more.
All this being said, there are a few things worth considering. First, these numbers likely don’t include download numbers, which most companies like to keep close to their chest. Also, compared to the last two Yoshi games, these figures actually represent an increase in sales as Yoshi’s Woolly World for Wii U and its expanded 3DS port released to first week sales of about 31,000 and 39,000 respectively. Of course, Wii U wasn’t very successful and the 3DS version was merely a port released as Nintendo was starting to move focus squarely to Switch.
