For gamers that prefer physical releases, Limited Run Games has been a godsend. The tiny publisher has already offered a number of Switch options, but this Friday’s release will likely have a strong appeal for a lot of Nintendo fans: Yooka-Laylee!
The spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee finally released on Switch late last year but, unfortunately, remained a digital exclusive, until now. The regular release will include reversible cover art and a full-color manual, but there will also be a Collector’s Edition available. The impressive offering will include the game, a CD soundtrack, a poster and a (non-functioning) N64-style cartridge complete with box! According to the team at Limited Run, the publisher is working hard to ensure that even the cardboard quality of the box will remain faithful to the era it’s intended to evoke!
The physical release for Yooka-Laylee will cost $49.99. While most of Limited Run’s Switch titles cost $29.99, Yooka-Laylee‘s steeper eShop price apparently necessitated a more expensive physical release. The game’s Kickstarter backers will be sent a discount code for the regular edition, while backers for the N64 box tier will receive guaranteed early access to the Collector’s Edition at an unspecified “substantial discount.” The Collector’s Edition will be limited to 3000 units and be priced at $74.99. We have reached out to find out if the CD soundtrack will be available separately, as is the case with some of the publisher’s other options. We’ll update with more information as it becomes available!
