Yo-Kai Watch has just made its global debut with the release of the first game and anime, but that isn’t stopping the mega-successful monster-battling franchise from dominating its homeland. In Japan, the series is already up to Yo-Kai Watch 3, which has just been given a July 16 release date.
While that’s big enough news by itself, the more significant announcement was that the series was following in the footsteps of its creature collecting brethren like Pokémon and will be released as two different version. Rather than looking to colors, precious gems, or letters, Yo-Kai Watch is doubling down on how unabashedly Japanese it is by naming its version after two of the island nation’s most famous dishes, Tempura and Sushi. Of course, the game will also include brand new Yo-Kai including a brand new Tribe of spirits, Rogue.
While Japanese gamers are trying to decide which version sounds more delicious, Yo-Kai Watch 3 Tempura or Sushi, the rest of the world is left wondering when Yo-Kai Watch 2 will be released in their countries. With E3 growing ever closer, the answer to that question might be just around the bend.
