Nintendo, in one of the company’s typically quirky moves, is selling the Special Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 exclusively via its MyNintendo website. For those who are attempting to log on and secure a copy for themselves, it’s been a rough start. Clicking on the link to the pre-order page has been resulting in extremely long wait times, if the chance to wait even occurs at all—the link itself as of this writing is sometimes leading to an error page.

If you’re fortunate enough to land a pre-purchase of the Special Edition, it comes with the following goodies:
- Physical edition of the game
- SteelBook game case
- Special Edition box featuring art by Masatsugu Saito
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Collected Works, a full-color, 250-page hardcover art book
It’s unclear how limited the Special Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will be. Sadly, many consumers will likely be forced to turn to opportunistic scalpers in order to enjoy this version of the game. Did you get hold of a pre-order? Tell us in the comments!

All day, I reloaded that page. Sigh.
I seriously wonder if these kinds of things need to run through Kickstarter or some other mechanism which is built to withstand spikes in interest/demand. Retail giants like Target and Best Buy were brought to their knees with the Metroid Dread special edition. Even Valve couldn’t handle orders for the Deck smoothly.
Nintendo has always been terrible at both gauging demand and anything remotely internet-traffic-related, so I was entirely ready for this particular preorder to crap the bed.
Here’s hoping something is different when they try again, whenever that will be. I’d sure love to continue my streak of special editions for all the Xenoblade games! (But I will never reward scalping.)
