The director of the Smash Bros. franchise, Masahiro Sakurai, released a new video where he reflects on the development of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Switch.
In the video, just over 12 minutes long, Sakurai goes in depth about the adjustments and additions that they needed to make for Ultimate to have its appeal, as well as the difficulties of dealing with a Switch cartridge versus a Wii U disk. The worldwide pandemic also affected their development for DLC characters. Check out his video below.
The video ends with him questioning the outlook of a possible future Smash Bros. title. While the possibility is not being ruled out, but he is skeptical that any future title could ever be quite as ambitious as or go beyond the scope of Ultimate. He does say though, “…for now at least, I can’t imagine a Smash Bros. title without me”.
