Nintendo fans are no strangers to hardware shortages. However, usually the issue is a simple result of high demand for popular systems, but a significantly more serious problem has been rearing its head recently — Coronavirus.
The infectious disease has been the biggest news story for several weeks now as everything and everyone coming out of China has been greeted with concern. Unfortunately, this includes the parts that go into every Switch. Nintendo has already confirmed this will lead to shortages in Japan, but now business news site Bloomberg is reporting that shortage will likely be global.
The timing certainly isn’t that great for Nintendo, as these shortages are expected to continue into March when Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches. So, the usual bump in hardware sales that often coincide with such a big release might not be as big as the company would like.
