Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is just the latest in a number of strong indie releases that prove the Switch can sell software. In a recent interview with Gamasutra, developer Lizardcube revealed that the title had sold better on Switch than on all other platforms combined! Not bad for an updated Master System title!
Making the Switch version’s numbers even more impressive, Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap even received a limited physical release on PlayStation 4, and Nintendo’s system still put up better numbers. It would seem that the system’s portability has made it the ideal platform for fans to pick up these types of games.
While Switch didn’t get a similar physical release, fans that want a hard copy of the title will be able to do so in the very near future. Southeast Asia and the Middle East will get a physical release of the game, and it will have Korean, Chinese, Japanese and English options. Since Switch does not have region-locking, fans of physical releases can choose to import the title on November 23. Anyone else can download the critically-acclaimed title now.
