It’s a strange time to be a fan of physical releases. On one hand, two video game consoles that don’t support physical media have been announced in just the last couple of weeks. On the other hand, it seems not a day goes by without the announcement of a physical release for a previously digital only Switch title. The latest is Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut, from inXile entertainment.
For the uninitiated, Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut is a tactical, turn-based RPG. Taking place in a post-apocalyptic timeline following a nuclear war between the US and USSR, the game should provide RPG fans with a unique setting compared to the majority of RPG options on Switch. Brian Fargo, the CEO of inXile Entertainment, had this to say about the game’s physical release:
“Many of our fans have old school sensibilities, so when we announced the arrival of Wasteland 2 on the Nintendo Switch, we immediately began hearing requests for a physical version of the game. Many players love the collecting element of games – having the game in-hand, displayed on a shelf, and ready to be plucked off that shelf and played at any moment. We investigated the possibility, and thanks to a partnership with U&I Entertainment, are delivering this physical version of the game for our fans to have and enjoy.”
Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut is now available in stores for $29.99.
