Splatoon 2‘s drop date of July 21 is fast approaching, so it only makes sense that accessory makers will want to be getting in on the action with the hotly anticipated title. Enter Hori and its official Splatoon 2 headset. Nintendo had already dropped word of the game’s voice chat feature via a smartphone application, Now, we finally know how that feature will work… and it’s a bit complicated. Complicated enough that a diagram is required, as seen below:
As demonstrated above, there’s a tangle of warriors connecting into a (delightful) squid-shaped connector device that splits three ways between the Hori headset, a smart device, and the Switch itself. In brief, the headset and phone are piping in the voices of other combatants, while the Switch is providing in-game noises. Thankfully, despite being a bit clunky, the setup seems easy enough to arrange, and the headset itself looks mighty fine. It’s modeled after an actual Splatoon 2 headset from in the game!
