In a surprise announcement, manga publisher VIZ announced that it will be bringing Kirby Manga Mania to North American readers this year. Those with long memories might recall that VIZ had stated back in 2009 that it would be bringing Hirokazu Hikawa’s Kirby manga to the West with a full translation. The original series ran in CoroCoro Magazine in Japan and culminated in 25 volumes of stories. It was exciting news to hear at the time, but sadly the release never happened. However, that seems to be changing with word that the first volume will go on sale June 8!

If you’d like an alternative to the Amazon listing for Kirby Manga Mania, feel free to click on this link for Barnes & Noble (which also has a link to reserve volume two which launches 09.14.21) or give a local bookstore or comic book shop a call to reserve a copy. It’s awesome to see VIZ continuing to crack into the wealth of Nintendo manga from Japan; there have been many different series for numerous franchises, so we can only hope this is a trend that will evolve into a mainstay of the publisher’s initiatives. If you’ve yet to check it out, there is also Kirby: Art & Style Collection available to read right now. It’s a delightful book devoted to official art produced for the series over the first 25 years of its existence. Getting a copy might help to ease the wait until June!
