In the early days of Nintendo 64, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was a mammoth release. Acclaim’s 1997 first-person shooter was the first FPS available on the platform, predating GoldenEye 007 by nearly six months. While Turok hasn’t quite been able to maintain the same fanbase as Rare’s classic, the game managed to sell more than a million copies, spawning a number of sequels, as a result.
While Acclaim went bankrupt in 2004, a remastered version of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter will soon be available on Switch courtesy of Nightdive Studios. The remaster initially appeared on Xbox One alongside the 1998 sequel Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. Nightdive has not yet confirmed a Switch release for Seeds of Evil, but a release seems likely if the first game sells well enough.
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter follows the exploits of Tal’Set, the latest in a lineage of hunters to take on the mantle of Turok. In the game, Tal’Set must defeat the Campaigner, a villain bent on destroying the barrier between Earth and the Lost Land. The Lost Land, naturally, is a world inhabited by aliens and dinosaurs. In order to stop the Campaigner, Tal’Set must employ a number of unique weapons, from the fantastical Chronoscepter and Tek Bow, to the more realistic shotgun and pistol.
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter will release on eShop March 18 for $19.99.
