For years, it seemed as though Capcom had forgotten about Mega Man. While merchandise and re-releases kept the blue bomber alive, fans had been long clamoring for a new title when Mega Man 11‘s surprise announcement finally arrived. This morning, the publisher revealed several new details about the upcoming title, including a release date, box art and more!

Though the news of a new Mega Man game has certainly proven exciting enough for fans, it looks like Capcom’s latest won’t be a simple retread. Mega Man 11 will introduce a brand-new Double Gear system, which should dramatically change up the gameplay. Mega Man has access to two Gears; the Speed Gear allows players to slow down time while the Power Gear allows players to charge up the Buster to a greater level and increases the strength of weapon-based abilities. When Mega Man reaches critical health, he can use the Double Gear system to access both Gears at the same time! Capcom has released a new trailer for the title, which should give players a better idea of how the system will work.
In case all of this information isn’t exciting enough for Mega Man fans, the title will also boast an exciting exclusive for Nintendo fans! Capcom has announced a new Mega Man Amiibo figure, which will come inside a set alongside the game, some stickers, a Level Selection screen cloth, and an adhesive patch! It’s unknown exactly what kind of functionality the Amiibo will feature, or whether or not it will work differently from the current Super Smash Bros. series figure, at this time. Regardless, it’s a very nice looking addition to the Amiibo roster!

Mega Man 11 will release on October 2. Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more on the title as its release date approaches!
