To the Moon was an early indie hit from Freebird Games built using RPG Maker but eschewing many of the trappings of that genre. Instead of battling monsters and leveling up to face down some world threatening evil, the game was entirely story based as you assumed the role of doctors using the latest technology to allow an old, dying man to relive moments of his life. Between this original story and a memorable soundtrack, the game went on to receive rave reviews from both critics and its audience.
The game will soon be making its console debut with a release on Nintendo Switch. This version is actually more of a remake than a port as the game had to be rebuilt from the ground up using Unity, instead of the old RPG Maker engine. For a tease of what to expect, check out the trailer below.
To the Moon doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but we do know it’s expected to be out sometime this summer.
