Every February 27 is Pokémon Day, as the date marks the day the very first Pokémon games were released for Game Boy in Japan. To celebrate today, which marks the series’ 22nd anniversary, The Pokémon company is doing a host of things.
First, an Amazon Echo and Google Home compatible app called Pikachu Talk is being released. The app lets users ask the famous creature questions, however its responses will naturally be limited to its rather small vocabulary.
Also, for a limited time, the series’ most recent film, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! will be free to watch on the Pokémon website as well as the Pokémon TV app. Meanwhile, SnapChat users will be able to access special filters based on the three original starters. My Nintendo members can also download some special promotional items, including a 3DS theme. Lastly, the Pokémon Center store has limited edition pins available for purchase as well.
After more than 20 years, Pokémon continues to be a major success, so it’s good to see the folks behind it are eager to celebrate that success with their millions of fans around the world.
