Nintendo Switch continues to play host to a variety of different games from a number of studios, both large and small. That trend doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon as Wired Productions has announced that The Town of Light: Deluxe Edition will be coming to Switch as both a physical and digital release. Check out the trailer, below:
The game is unique in that it’s a history-based examination of the treatment of mental health patients in the middle of the 20th century. The Town of Light is a first-person psychological adventure game starring a 16-year-old girl named Renée. The events of the story send her looking into her past while grappling with her own fragile mental state. Renée finds herself spending much of the game inside of Volterra Psychiatric Asylum, which is based in Tuscany, Italy. Wired Productions originally released the game on PC back in 2016 and made waves for its thorough research of actual events to form the backbone of The Town of Light‘s story. Its message is powerful and very welcome in an industry that remains transfixed on bullets and body counts.
This Deluxe Edition brings with it exclusive documentary content that delves deeper into Volterra and its patients, something that has previously never been offered to players of the game. While there are horror tinges to the proceedings, this isn’t meant to be Resident Evil: it’s instead positioned to be a glimpse at real-life issues revolving around mental health that continue to touch people to this day. The game is expected later this year, but there’s no official release date just yet. We’ll update with one once it’s revealed.
