The Super Mario Bros. Movie wasn’t just a hit as a film, it was also a boon to Nintendo in terms of boosting sales and brand awareness. According to the company’s recent financial briefing, The Super Mario Bros. Movie provided a year-on-year 1.3 times bump in sales of five Mario games: New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Maker 2, and Super Mario 3D World Deluxe. All of these titles saw an appreciable increase in sell-through, which Nintendo is attributing to the popuarity of the film.
What’s more, Nintendo also alleges that the movie increased interest in Mario related mobile apps, such as Super Mario Run and Mario Kart Tour. In this instance, Nintendo says the numbers show a 1.4 times increase compared to the previous year. Nintendo says that 169.84 million people went to theaters to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which has helped to spike consumer awareness of the brand even among people that are unfamiliar with the mustachioed plumber. Things are looking up for Mario and Nintendo if these numbers are anything to go by.
