While hopes were high that The Super Mario Bros. Movie would do solid numbers when it debuted in theaters last week, few could have known that the film would become the roaring success that it is right now. Across the Easter weekend, and if you include the boost from ticket sales on Wednesday and Thursday, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has hauled in $337 million. That is a whole lot of gold coins, dear readers.

This feat is so astounding that it has stolen the crown from Disney’s Frozen II, which formerly held the global record for the greatest release of an animated feature. This is incredible news for Nintendo and Illumination, whose partnership is looking rather golden at the moment. It’s worth noting that critics have torn opinions about the movie, but fans are overwhelmingly loving it. On Rotten Tomatoes the film currently has a 96 percent approval rating from fans—let’s face it, movie critics have become something of a non-factor for many moviegoers of late. See it for yourself and see what you think.

We’ll have our own thoughts about The Super Mario Bros. Movie up shortly, but in the interim why not tell us what you think of the film if you’ve seen it down in the comments and on social media!
