Telltale Games has made quite a name for themselves over the last few years. With major franchises such as The Walking Dead, Batman and Guardians of the Galaxy under their belt, the studio seemed a safe bet in an industry where safe bets can be few and far between. Unfortunately, after a difficult year, the studio laid off a number of employees before announcing what seems to be the beginning of the end. The company released the following statement on Twitter Friday evening:
While Telltale Games will wrap up some of their current obligations, it would seem a number of projects may not see the light of day. Of course, the more disappointing part of the story is that many talented developers now find themselves without jobs and without a stable source of income.
The video game industry can be a very difficult one to work in, with long nights, tough competition and crunch time being a handful of obstacles facing developers. While more and more developers have found work over the last few years thanks to a burgeoning indie scene, more jobs also means increased competition. Hopefully the developers that now find themselves out of work will be able to find new places of business quickly.
