Add this to the list of games we’ve neglected to bring to everyone’s attention here on the site. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge looks to satiate the long-running desire of many a TMNT fan to see the four brothers return to their brutal brawling glory days on NES and SNES. Shredder’s Revenge is being developed by Tribute Games and Dotemu. You can view the first trailer here—if you were a ’90s kid, prepare to feel your heartstrings tugged:
Not gonna lie, that’s one of the coolest animated intros for any game, like… ever. Ahem. Moving on. Now, it’s been announced that April O’Neil will be joining the turtles in this particular adventure. You can see her in action below:
Here are some of the features to look forward to in the game:
- Gnarly game design takes you back to the ’80s
- Beautiful full-color pixel art graphics
- Old-school gameplay enhanced with super-fresh mechanics
- Up to four players simultaneously
- Play with iconic TMNT characters and vehicles in diverse gameplay options
- Radical new story mode
- And totally more to come!
We’d also like to end by pointing out that eagle-eyed readers (and UDON fans) might recognize the keyart for the game as being done by the illustrious Edwin “Iron Pinky” Huang. The artist confirmed his involvement in the game with this post on Twitter:
April O’Neil is going to be a playable character in Shredder’s Revenge! I had the honor of illustrating the promo art for this as well. Shout out to @Dotemu for having me on board! #tmnt #apriloneil #ninjaturtles #teenagemutantninjaturtlesshreddersrevenge #shreddersrevenge pic.twitter.com/NUjTVf1a4t

This is shaping up to potentially be one of the greatest TMNT games produced in the past 15 years… and possibly even one of the best TMNT games ever. High expectations, but with such gorgeous animation, graphics, and clear love for the source material, we sincerely hope that Shredder’s Revenge kicks shell when it launches later this year.
