A more portable version of Nintendo’s hybrid console might be in the cards.

Oh, the rumor mill, it be a churnin’, folks. Back in the prehistoric era October of last year, the Wall Street Journal alleged that Nintendo was already priming a new version of its immensely popular Switch console. That initial story has come back around in a modified form, this time courtesy of The Verge (thanks in turn to Japanese outlet Nikkei). Not a whole lot has changed between then and now, but the emphasis in this version of the rumor seems to be on Nintendo’s desire to produce a cheaper, smaller iteration of Switch.

This is in keeping with the WSJ piece which alleged that Nintendo was hoping to outfit this fresh take on Switch with new technologies. If these rumors dovetail at all, it stands to reason that the presence of improved tech could very well lead to a more portable, not to mention cheaper, Switch. What’s more, with Nintendo recently slashing its forecast of 20 million Switch units sold for this fiscal year, a revised version of the console could help to ignite sales anew. The $300 asking price for the console does provide a bit of sticker shock for some, so hopefully if there’s any merit to all this conjecture, a smaller price tag is on the way.

Are you waiting to buy a Switch? Would a revised version at a cheaper price point entice you? Let us know in the comments and social media!
