GameIndustry’s publisher Christopher Dring recently sat down and outlined the great success that Switch has had in both luring indie developers as well as providing them with a secure platform from which to sell their games. While Wii U struggled greatly with third party support, Switch has had no such issue. Indeed, the hybrid console has been selling in droves and is thus bringing aboard multiple devs who are anxious to capitalize on Switch’s momentum.

Creators like the folks at Sumo Digital saw some excellent numbers pushed when they dropped Snake Pass on the eShop early in the console’s lifecycle. Even older titles like Shovel Knight have become major success stories on the system. According to David D’Angelo of Yacht Club Games, “Shovel Knight, which was almost 3 years old when the Switch launched, sold more units out of the gate than any other platform.” That’s a really incredible track record for such a new console.

There are a ton of games to sift through in the Switch eShop, including surprise hits like Blaster Master Zero, but there are some who see this as a double-edged sword. With more games comes more of a challenge to stand out amongst the crowd. With throngs of titles to choose from and more coming, some developers might start to see diminishing returns in the long run. Regardless, Switch is really making it easier for the little guy to get their games into the hands of fans. Hopefully its hot streak is nowhere near cooling off, which means more awesome titles for players to experience in the months and years to come.
