Nintendo Switch is off to a blazing start. The hybrid console has been on the market for less than a year and has not only blown past the sales of Wii in that time, itself an immense success, but cemented itself as the fastest selling console of all-time in the United States. Amazingly, in the time since Switch launched in March of 2017, the system is sitting at 4.8 million units sold and climbing.
This is wonderful news for both Nintendo and its fans. In a statement, Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé said the following:
“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go. Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”
Considering the disaster that was Wii U, it’s pretty astounding to see Nintendo make the comeback that it has. There are rumors swirling that we’ll be seeing a Nintendo Direct sometime this month, so hopefully we’ll find out soon what to expect from Switch in the months ahead!
